Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady is Hiring an Unit Director Near Schenectady, NY

TITLE: Unit Director

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, Afternoon/Evening hours: 12:00pm - 8:00pm

SALARY: $52,000-$55,000 based on experience

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Direct and manage the overall daily operations of Unit under the control of the organization with the primary concern for a comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery. Also supervise and trains staff (direct and indirect reports), handle personnel issues, manage facility, develop and manage budget, manages community relations, volunteers, and membership administration/database. The Unit Director will perform duties in accordance with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Basic Standards of Operation, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady established policies and procedures of the organization.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

1. Establish Unit programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and create an outcome-driven Club experience that facilitates achievement of youth development outcomes.

2. Ensure a healthy, safe environment, with well-maintained facilities, equipment and supplies.

3. Manage and maintain the physical facility (inside and out) to ensure it is safe, clean and all aspects of the facility are in proper working order.

Strategic Planning

4. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate Unit overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.

Resource Management

5. Manage Unit’s financial resources, assisting in the development of annual budget. Monitor and Control expenditures against budget.

6. Ensure administrative and process systems are in place to maintain the operation of the Club’s physical properties and equipment, including use of facilities by outside groups. Ensure compliance with organization policies.

7. Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for unit staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings.

8. Adhere to all Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady’s Policies and Procedures.

Program Development and Implementation

9. Plan and oversee the administration of designated Unit programs and activities that

Support Youth Development Outcomes and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady’s Positive Behavior Intervention Plan.

10. Establish and help maintain Unit program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members. Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and that club equipment is maintained in good working condition.

11. Evaluate club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.

12. Ensure all grants are meeting objectives

13. Control Unit program and activity expenditures within approved budget.

14. Oversee and administer CACFP food program

Supervision

15. Oversees Program Director and specialist positions as well as all staff & volunteers in unit. Works closely with the Program Director with the hiring of program staff, specialists and volunteers.

16. Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing

feedback and regular appraisal to all supervised staff. Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff. Monitor to ensure policies and procedures are met.

17. Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted,

breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.

Partnership Development

18. Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders, school districts and organizations.

Marketing and Public Relations

19. Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.

External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.

· Assume other duties as assigned. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady operates several summer, non-unit (City Parks, Camp Lovejoy) and innovative programs along with several fund-raising events and special events to benefit our members and the community. It is the expectation that staff members accept assignments to these programs and responsibilities enthusiastically and carry out the respective responsibilities with the same spirit and dedication as is given to all other work.

· Some travel to trainings and other job sites is required.

· Lifting in excess of 45lbs will be required at times.

· Work in the evenings and weekends are a normal part of this job.

· Follow organizational purchase procedures for supplies and equipment.

· Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.

· May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

· Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience

· A minimum of five years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience

· Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel

· Strong communication skills, both oral and written

· Ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff

· Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline

· Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management

· Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.

· Working knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office and ability to become skilled in other software as needed.

· Must have a valid Driver’s License

· Must have reliable transportation.
